Biography

Helen E. Morrison 89, former longtime resident of Seventh Avenue in Lansingburgh, died of Alzheimer's disease on December 27, 2011 at the Watermark at Logan Square, an assisted living residence in Philadelphia.
Born in Cohoes on March 22, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. Morrison and Julia Miller Morrison.
A graduate of Lansingburgh High School and Troy Business College, Helen worked for 42 years as a casualty-property rater for the Travelers Insurance Company in Albany, retiring in 1984. She also studied organ with Helen Henshaw and Betty Valenta in Albany and served for years as organist and choir director of the First Baptist Church in Troy. She belonged to the former United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh, now the Cornerstone Community Church, and was a member of its administrative board and missions commission. Helen had also been a member of the Thursday Morning Club and was a tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Troy. She loved traveling and toured throughout the United States and Europe.
Survivors include her nephew and devoted caregiver James N. Clark of Philadelphia, close cousins Donald and Bette Miller of Delmar and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her sisters Mary M. Clark, Alyce E. Roberts and Anna M. Blackwell, her brother Donald J. Morrison and close cousin Walter Miller.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Community Church of Lansingburgh, corner of Third Avenue and 115th Street, with Rev. E. Allen Siebold officiating.
Burial will follow in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
A calling hour will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

I was so saddened to hear of Helen's passing. She was such a light in the First Baptist Church.I am so glad I had the opportunity to know her. She was a sweet, smart woman who was loved by all who knew her.
