Biography
GRAFTON Charles J. Hamill "Charlie", 66 died suddenly on Monday January 23, 2012 at his residence.
Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Hamill and Mary Frey Hamill and loving husband of Jenny Lynn Spiak Hamill of Grafton. They were married for 39 years.
Raised and educated in Albany, Charlie was currently employed by the Berlin Central School District as a bus driver where he was always willing to go the extra "mile" for his students. He previously was employed by the Ale House in Troy and the Operating Engineers Union. He was a founding member and current president of the "Chippi Club" at Babcock Lake. He was an avid New York Giants fan and was able to see them win another NFC Championship. Charlie knew no strangers only friends.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Jenny, include a daughter Bridgit May, two grandsons Carl Joseph, Jr. and Gunnar Nash Berthen all of Queens, two brothers Thomas Hamill of Selkirk and Bernard Hamill of Albany, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Charlie was predeceased by a brother Daniel Hamill and a sister Margaret Fogarty.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join his family for a memorial service and "Irish Wake" to "hoist" Charlie at 11:00 a.m. on January 28, 2012 at the Babcock Lake Community Center, 11 Lakeview Road, Grafton.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Charlie's name to the Grafton Rescue Squad, P. O. Box G, Grafton, NY 12082 or the Troy Clothe-A-Child, c/o The Record, 501 Broadway, Troy, NY 12180.
